AREAS of Support

HAWMA's three main areas of support for the education sector projects implementing through partners in Hyderabad

1. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

A large portion of HAWMA's funds go towards supporting Scholarships, which are processed by our partner organization in Hyderabad the Foundation For Economic and Educational Development (FEED). It is a reputed Non Government Organization (NGO). Scholarships are awarded based on merit and need. During 2011/12 FEED awarded 6,800 scholarships and supported 4,000 students of deserving young widows/abandoned mothers. The programs have sufficient check and balances and is supervised by HAWMA officials annually when they visit Hyderabad. The overhead costs in USA is zero and the overhead cost for our partners in Hyderabad is low below the 10% mark. HAWMA's financial support is relatively small but effective in such a large program.

HAWMA is also supporting FEED's establishment of the Hyderabad Institute of Excellence (HIE), which is located in Vikharabad (about two hours drive from Hyderabad). HIE will help ensure education and training of the highest standards for meritorious students (securing 90% and above grades) who are poor and deserving and hopefully produce leaders of tomorrow.

2. EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT OF GIRLS

The second largest recipient of HAWMA funds goes to the Girls High School Moazzam Jahi Market. It is situated near Charminar in the old city of Hyderabad operated by an all women Board of Directors. HAWMA has been supporting the school with its operational budget for the past 15 years. At the school about 700 girl students come from very poor families. The school has attained excellent results and graduating students can get scholarships through the scholarship program mentioned above. HAWMA is helping to turn in the school from Urdu to an English Medium School in a phased manner. To achieve this the school is now being assisted by the Bashir and Sarwar Babukhan Trust, which

operates a number of English medium schools in Hyderabad. The first English class will be offered at the school with the start of the academic year 2013/14.

HAWMA is also coordinating its support for the school with two other organizations here in the USA, which are assisting the school. These are:
